Recipe Yield: 12 muffins

INGREDIENTS

Muffin Batter:
1 ¾ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup whole milk
⅓ cup sour cream
½ cup granulated sugar
2 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 large egg
⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted
1 ½ tsp vanilla extract

Cinnamon Swirl:
⅓ cup brown sugar (light or dark)
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Vanilla Glaze:
¾ cup powdered sugar
1 ½ tbsp milk
½ tsp vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat & Prepare: Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with liners or lightly grease with butter.

2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk milk, sour cream, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour into dry ingredients and mix until just combined (do not overmix).

4. Make Cinnamon Swirl: In a small bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and melted butter to form a thick, smooth paste.

5. Layer & Swirl: Fill each muffin cup halfway with batter. Drop ½ teaspoon of cinnamon mixture into each, then top with more batter. Use a toothpick to gently swirl.

6. Bake: Bake for 16-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let muffins cool for 5 minutes.

7. Drizzle with Glaze: Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over warm muffins.

8. Serve & Enjoy! Best served warm for that soft, gooey cinnamon roll effect!

HELPFUL TIPS TO PERFECT THIS RECIPE

  • Use Sour Cream: This keeps muffins extra soft and fluffy—just like cinnamon rolls!
  • Extra Gooey Swirl: Add an extra drizzle of cinnamon mixture on top before baking.
  • Perfect Glaze: For a thicker glaze, use less milk; for a thinner drizzle, add a few extra drops.
