Recipe Yield: 8 servings

INGREDIENTS

1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
6 oz sliced ham
6 oz shredded mozzarella cheese
2 Tbsp Dijon mustard
1 large egg
1 Tbsp water
1 tsp everything bagel seasoning

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat and prepare:
First, preheat oven to 400°F (205°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, lightly flour a clean surface and gently unfold the puff pastry.

2. Assemble the filling:
Next, spread Dijon mustard evenly over the puff pastry. After that, layer ham slices across the surface, followed by an even layer of shredded mozzarella.

3. Slice and roll:
Then, cut the pastry into 8 equal strips. Starting at one end, gently twist each strip several times, keeping the filling tucked inside.

4. Egg wash and season:
Meanwhile, whisk egg and water together. Brush each pastry stick generously. Finally, sprinkle evenly with everything bagel seasoning.

5. Bake until golden:
Place sticks on the prepared baking sheet, spacing slightly apart. Bake for 16–18 minutes, or until puffed, deeply golden, and crisp.

6. Cool slightly and serve:
Remove from oven and cool 3–5 minutes before serving warm.

Helpful Tips to Perfect This Recipe

  • Use cold pastry for best layers:
Because puff pastry rises from steam, keeping it cold ensures flaky, well-defined layers that bake evenly and look professional.
  • Shred cheese yourself:
While pre-shredded cheese works, freshly shredded mozzarella melts smoother and prevents excess oil release, which keeps the pastry crisp.
  • Twist gently, not tightly:
Although twisting adds texture, avoid over-tightening. This allows the pastry to expand properly while baking.
