Crispy Air Fryer Churro Bites are the perfect way to enjoy classic churro flavor with a modern twist. Instead of deep frying, these golden bites cook beautifully in the air fryer. As a result, they turn crisp outside while staying tender inside. Even better, they come together quickly using simple pantry ingredients.

Traditionally, churros originated in Spain and were often enjoyed with hot chocolate. Over time, they became popular worldwide, especially at fairs and cafés. However, this air fryer version offers the same comforting taste with less oil and less mess.

Meanwhile, these bite-sized churros are ideal for sharing, snacking, or serving at gatherings. Because they’re small, they cook evenly and coat perfectly in cinnamon sugar. Plus, they’re easy to customize with dips or fillings. Whether you’re craving a cozy dessert or a sweet snack, this recipe delivers warmth, crunch, and nostalgic flavor in every bite.

Recipe Yield: 4 servings

INGREDIENTS

1 cup all-purpose flour
1 large egg
2 Tbsp unsalted butter
1 Tbsp granulated sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1 cup water
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
1 tsp ground cinnamon
Nonstick cooking spray

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Prepare the dough base:
First, add water, butter, sugar, and salt to a saucepan over medium heat. Meanwhile, stir gently until the butter melts and the mixture begins to simmer.

2. Form the churro dough:
Next, reduce heat to low and immediately add flour. Then, stir vigorously until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the pan. Remove from heat and cool 5 minutes.

3. Finish the dough:
After cooling slightly, add the egg and vanilla. Then, mix well until the dough becomes glossy and smooth.

4. Shape the bites:
Transfer dough to a piping bag or spoon. Meanwhile, pipe or scoop 1-in dough portions onto parchment.

5. Air fry until golden:
Preheat air fryer to 375°F. Lightly spray basket and dough. Then, air fry 8–10 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden and crisp.

6. Coat and serve:
Meanwhile, combine the granulated sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl. Then, while the churro bites are still warm, toss them gently in the cinnamon sugar until evenly coated. Serve immediately.

Helpful Tips to Perfect This Recipe

  • Control Dough Texture: Allow the dough to cool slightly before adding the egg. Otherwise, the egg may scramble and affect texture.
  • Even Crisping: Shake the basket halfway through cooking. As a result, all sides cook evenly and turn golden.
  • Serve Fresh: These bites taste best warm. However, you can reheat them briefly to restore crispiness.
