These Spooky Mummy Hot Dogs are a Halloween must-have! Buttery crescent dough strips wrap around juicy hot dogs to form adorable little “mummies” that are crispy, golden, and full of flavor. With fun candy eyes and a flaky crust, they’re a treat kids and adults can’t resist. Even better, they’re quick to make and perfect for parties, snacks, or spooky movie nights.

Hot dogs have long been an American classic, but around Halloween, they get a frightful (and fun) twist. The tradition of mummy-shaped snacks started as a playful nod to ancient Egypt’s wrapped pharaohs — now reimagined with buttery dough and a side of ketchup “blood.”

From the first bite, you’ll taste the perfect mix of savory and buttery warmth. Plus, with their golden-brown glow and silly faces, these mummy dogs are guaranteed to bring smiles to any Halloween table. Easy, festive, and so much fun — they’re the ultimate spooky-season recipe!

Recipe Yield: 8 servings

INGREDIENTS

1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
8 hot dogs
1 tbsp butter, melted
1 slice cheddar cheese, cut into thin strips (optional)
16 small candy eyes or dots of mustard for eyes
Ketchup and mustard, for serving

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat and prepare:
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Separate crescent dough into 4 rectangles and press seams together to seal.

2. Slice the dough:
Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut each rectangle into thin strips (about ¼ inch wide). These will be your “bandages.”

3. Wrap the mummies:
Wrap each hot dog with dough strips, leaving a small space near the top for the “face.” For extra flavor, tuck in a strip of cheddar cheese under one or two dough layers.

4. Brush and bake:
Lightly brush each wrapped hot dog with melted butter. Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until the dough is puffed and golden brown.

5. Add the eyes:
Cool for 2–3 minutes, then add candy eyes (or dots of mustard or ketchup) to create faces.

6. Serve and enjoy:
Serve warm with ketchup and mustard for dipping. These mummy hot dogs are hauntingly good right out of the oven!

HELPFUL TIPS TO PERFECT THIS RECIPE

  • Use Cold Dough: Keep crescent roll dough chilled until you’re ready to cut and wrap; this helps prevent stretching and tearing.
  • Add a Cheesy Layer: For a fun twist, wrap a thin strip of cheddar cheese inside before adding dough for a gooey, melty surprise.
  • Customize the Look: Play with the spacing and wrapping style — loosely wrapping creates a more “aged mummy” look, while tighter wraps look neat and modern.
