Hot Honey Ricotta Pizza brings together everything that makes homemade pizza feel extra special: crisp golden crust, creamy ricotta, melted mozzarella, bright tomato sauce, and that sweet-spicy drizzle that makes every slice pop. It feels restaurant-worthy, but it is still simple enough for a cozy weeknight dinner.
The little upgrade here is the seasoned ricotta. Instead of plain dollops, the ricotta gets mixed with Parmesan, garlic, lemon zest, and black pepper. As a result, it bakes into soft, creamy pockets that balance the heat from the honey beautifully. Then, fresh basil finishes everything with a bright, fresh flavor.
This pizza is bold, creamy, crispy, and just a little unexpected. Basically, it is the kind of recipe that disappears slice by slice while everyone is still “just tasting.”

Recipe Yield: 4 servings
INGREDIENTS
1 lb pizza dough, room temperature
1 cup shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
3/4 cup whole-milk ricotta cheese
2 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
1 small garlic clove, finely grated
1 tbsp olive oil, divided
2/3 cup pizza sauce
1 tbsp tomato paste
1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes, plus more to taste
1/4 tsp smoked paprika
1/2 tsp lemon zest
1/4 tsp fine sea salt
1/8 tsp black pepper
2 tbsp hot honey, plus more for serving
1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
1 tbsp cornmeal or flour, for shaping
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Preheat the oven:
Place a pizza stone, pizza steel, or heavy-duty inverted baking sheet on the center rack. Preheat the oven to 475°F to 500°F for at least 30 minutes, depending on your pan’s heat rating.
2. Prepare the ricotta:
In a small bowl, stir together the ricotta, Parmesan, garlic, lemon zest, salt, and black pepper until creamy.
3. Mix the sauce:
In another small bowl, stir together the pizza sauce, tomato paste, crushed red pepper flakes, smoked paprika, and 1 tsp olive oil.
4. Shape the dough:
Sprinkle the work surface with cornmeal or flour. Stretch the dough into a 12-inch round, leaving the edges slightly thicker.
5. Build the pizza:
Brush the crust edge with the remaining olive oil. Spread the sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Sprinkle with mozzarella, then add small spoonfuls of ricotta over the top.
6. Bake until golden:
Carefully transfer the pizza to the hot stone or baking sheet. Bake for 10 to 13 minutes, rotating once halfway through, until the crust is puffed and golden and the cheese is bubbling.
7. Finish and serve:
Drizzle with hot honey, then scatter fresh basil over the pizza. Let it rest for 2 minutes before slicing.
Helpful Tips to Perfect This Recipe
- Use room-temperature dough for easier shaping: Cold dough can shrink back and tear. Letting it rest at room temperature makes the crust easier to stretch and helps it bake up lighter.
- Blot ricotta if it looks watery: Whole-milk ricotta gives the best creamy texture, but some brands hold extra moisture. If needed, spoon it onto a paper towel for a few minutes before mixing.
- Keep the ricotta in small dollops: Smaller spoonfuls warm through better and create creamy bites across the whole pizza. Also, they help prevent the center from getting too soft.
- Add the hot honey after baking: This keeps the honey glossy, flavorful, and fresh instead of letting it burn in the oven. For extra heat, add another light drizzle right before serving.
- Preheat the baking surface well: A hot pizza stone or inverted sheet pan helps the bottom crust crisp quickly. As a result, the pizza tastes much closer to one from a pizza oven.
