Haunted Spiderweb Guacamole brings spooky fun to the party table without turning snack prep into a project. Creamy avocado is mixed with fresh lime, red onion, jalapeño, tomato, and cilantro, then finished with a sour cream spiderweb and a little black olive spider. It looks festive, but the flavor stays classic, fresh, and scoopable.
The contrast is what makes this Halloween guacamole so good: rich avocado, bright lime, a gentle kick of jalapeño, and cool sour cream in every swipe. Better yet, the guacamole can be prepared a little ahead, then decorated just before serving so the color stays bright and the web looks clean.
Guacamole has deep roots in Mexico, where avocados were known to the Aztecs as ahuacatl. Today, this playful version is ready for a Halloween spread with black tortilla chips or crisp vegetables alongside.

Recipe Yield: 6 servings
INGREDIENTS
3 ripe avocados, peeled and pitted
¼ cup red onion, finely diced
1 small jalapeño, finely minced, seeded if desired
¼ cup Roma tomato, seeded and finely diced
2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
2 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
½ tsp fine sea salt, plus more to taste
¼ cup sour cream or Mexican crema
1–2 tsp milk, only if needed
2 large pitted black olives, for spider decoration
Black tortilla chips, for serving
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Mash and mix:
In a medium bowl, mash avocados with lime juice and salt until creamy but still slightly chunky.
2. Add the flavor:
Stir in red onion, jalapeño, tomato, and cilantro until evenly combined. Taste and add more lime juice or salt if needed.
3. Spread the base:
Spoon the guacamole into a shallow round serving dish or small pie plate. Smooth the top gently with a spatula.
4. Create the web:
If using sour cream, stir in 1 tsp milk only if needed for a smooth, pipeable consistency. Mexican crema usually will not need thinning. Transfer to a small piping bag or zip-top bag and snip a tiny corner. Pipe 3–4 thin concentric circles over the guacamole. Starting near the center, drag a toothpick or skewer straight outward through all the circles to the edge. Wipe the tip clean, then repeat 6–8 times around the dip to create the connecting web lines.
5. Make the spider:
Slice 1 olive in half lengthwise and place one half on the web for the spider’s body. If desired, cut a small rounded piece from the other half and place it beside the body for a head. Cut the remaining olive pieces into 8 thin strips and arrange 4 on each side as legs.
6. Serve:
Serve immediately with black tortilla chips. If making ahead, prepare through Step 2, press plastic wrap directly against the guacamole with no air pockets, and refrigerate for up to 2 hours. Finish Steps 3–5 just before serving.
Helpful Tips to Perfect This Recipe
- Pick Perfect Avocados: Choose ripe avocados that give slightly under gentle pressure without feeling overly soft. They will mash easily while still giving the guacamole some texture.
- Keep the Web Neat: The sour cream should pipe smoothly but still hold its shape. Add milk only ½ tsp at a time if needed, and cut a very small opening in the piping bag.
- Make It Ahead the Right Way: Prepare the guacamole up to 2 hours ahead and press plastic wrap directly against its surface. Add the spiderweb and olive spider just before serving for the freshest color and cleanest design.
