Mummified Jalapeño Poppers

Mummified Jalapeño Poppers wrapped in crescent dough with candy eyes.
Mummified Jalapeño Poppers turn cheesy jalapeño halves into a fun Halloween appetizer with flaky crescent dough and just the right touch of heat.

Mummified Jalapeño Poppers bring just the right mix of spooky fun and serious snack appeal. Fresh jalapeño halves are filled with a creamy blend of cream cheese, sharp cheddar, garlic, and onion, then wrapped in buttery crescent dough “bandages” and baked until golden. Add candy eyes after baking, and each little popper turns into a Halloween mummy that looks festive without being fussy.

The filling is rich enough to soften the jalapeño heat, while optional bacon adds a smoky, savory bite. Removing the seeds and white membranes keeps the spice more approachable, though every pepper has its own personality.

These easy Halloween appetizers are perfect for parties, movie nights, or a themed snack board. Serve them warm with ranch or chipotle mayo for dipping. They’re playful, cheesy, flaky, and simple enough to assemble ahead.

Recipe Yield: 12 mummies

INGREDIENTS

6 medium jalapeños, halved lengthwise, seeds and membranes removed
1 (8-oz) refrigerated crescent dough sheet
4 oz cream cheese, softened
½ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
2 tbsp chopped cooked bacon (optional)
¼ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp onion powder
⅛ tsp fine salt
⅛ tsp black pepper
1 large egg, beaten
24 small candy eyes

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Preheat and prep:
Preheat oven to 400°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. When preparing the jalapeños, wear disposable gloves to prevent skin irritation.

2. Mix the filling:
In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese, cheddar, bacon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until evenly combined.

3. Fill the jalapeños:
Spoon or pipe the filling into each jalapeño half, keeping it level with the cut edges so the filling doesn’t overflow while baking.

4. Wrap the mummies:
Cut the cold crescent dough into strips about ¼ inch wide. Loosely wrap each stuffed jalapeño with dough strips, leaving small gaps and an opening near the top for the eyes.

5. Brush and bake:
Arrange the poppers cut side up on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly brush the exposed dough with beaten egg. Bake for 13–15 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and baked through.

6. Add the eyes:
Cool for about 5 minutes. Gently press two candy eyes into the exposed cheese on each popper while still warm. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Helpful Tips to Perfect This Recipe

  • Control the Heat: Remove all seeds and white membranes for milder mummies. For more heat, leave a little membrane intact.
  • Keep the Bandages Loose: Cold dough cuts cleanly, and slightly loose wrapping leaves room for the crescent dough to puff without hiding the mummy face.
  • Make Ahead Magic: Stuff and wrap the jalapeños up to 8 hours ahead and refrigerate covered. Brush with egg just before baking for the best texture.
