Spooky Spider Deviled Eggs turn a classic party favorite into a fun Halloween appetizer without making anything complicated. The creamy yolk filling has just enough Dijon, vinegar, and garlic to keep each bite bright and balanced. Meanwhile, black olive spiders add the creepy little finish that makes the platter memorable.
They’re simple enough for a family Halloween night, yet playful enough for a party table. The eggs can also be prepared ahead, which makes assembly easier when you’re hosting.
Deviled eggs have been served in different forms for centuries, but this version keeps things familiar. Think tender egg whites, smooth savory filling, a little paprika, and those unmistakable olive spiders. It’s festive, easy to make, and just spooky enough to get attention before everyone reaches for one.

Recipe Yield: 12 servings
INGREDIENTS
6 large eggs
3 tbsp mayonnaise
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp white vinegar
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp salt, plus more to taste
1/8 tsp black pepper, plus more to taste
18 medium pitted black olives, plus extra if needed
paprika or chives, optional garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Boil the eggs:
Place eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water by about 1 inch. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer for 10 minutes. Transfer immediately to an ice bath and cool completely before peeling.
2. Prepare the filling:
Slice each egg in half lengthwise and carefully remove the yolks. Place yolks in a bowl and mash until smooth. Add mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, vinegar, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until creamy and well combined.
3. Fill the eggs:
Spoon or pipe the yolk mixture evenly into the egg whites. Sprinkle lightly with paprika or chives if desired.
4. Make the olive spiders:
Slice 6 olives in half lengthwise to make 12 spider bodies. Cut the remaining 12 olives in half lengthwise, then slice each half into 4 thin strips for the legs. Place one olive half, rounded side up, in the center of each egg. Arrange 4 olive strips on each side to create 8 legs.
5. Serve and chill:
Arrange the deviled eggs on a platter and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes. Keep chilled until ready to serve.
Helpful Tips to Perfect This Recipe
- Make the filling extra creamy: Press the cooked yolks through a fine-mesh sieve before mixing for an especially smooth filling that pipes beautifully.
- Dry the olives well: Pat the olives dry before cutting and arranging them. This helps the spider bodies and legs stay neatly in place on the filling.
- Store them safely: Keep finished deviled eggs refrigerated and enjoy them within 3–4 days. Don’t leave them at room temperature for more than 2 hours.
